Venture off the beaten path and look down. Look way down. Get down on your hands and knees. Get horizontal. There's a fantastic world down there. These photographs are a tiny representation of what you can find if you lower your field of veiw.

If we think of fungus at all, it is usually as a vegetable we find at the grocery store to serve in salads and as a garnish with the evening meal. Cultivated and wild flowers are beautiful and pleasing to look at, but the variety and beauty of the fungus that grows on the cool, damp forest floor can be just as spectacular.

All of these photographs were taken on either side of south Oshawa Creek, in an area of the woods covering only a few acres.
